Everything started in March and it seems to have become our new normal. We remember how our best friend’s smile looks, but now it is covered by a mask. We remember how “let’s grab some coffee” sounded before class, but now it has been replaced by “is my microphone working?”.

Humans are creatures of habit. That being said, it is hard to adapt to our new life, as everything around us changes constantly. However, there is one thing that is still under our control, and that is our inner peace. Are you ready to create your own happiness again?

Take care of your body

Mens sana in corpore sano is not just something that we had to translate in Latin class. Having a healthy diet, drinking water, exercising, getting enough sleep – all of these influence our moods and have a huge impact on our state of mind. Your body is the  home that you’ll have forever, so you should treat it as such.

Stay connected – but get rid of social media

A study shows that 80% of  young social media users experience reduced self-esteem, because they can’t help but keep comparing themselves to other people they see online. We have to remember that every single one of us is unique and beautiful in our own way and that people only post themselves at their best moments. Everybody has weaknesses and bad moments – social media just isn’t the place to show them.

However, it doesn’t mean that you should completely disconnect. Technology gives us the huge advantage of staying in touch with our loved ones during these tough times, when we can’t really meet face to face. So, what are you waiting for? Create a group chat with your best friends (even though I’m sure that you already have one) and ask how they’re doing. Play an online game together (you’ve heard about Among us, right?).  Call your cousin and ask if your aunt still bakes that wonderful cake that you eat every time you visit them. Text a former classmate that you haven’t heard from in a while. Tell your  favourite former teacher that you still use what they  taught you till this day. The possibilities are infinite. You just have to act on them.

Discover your passions

Make yourself a cup of tea and grab a random book from the shelf. Look for some easy recipes and learn how to cook your favourite meals (I recommend the Tasty and Yummly apps if you want to discover new dishes). Try to copy a famous painting. Write a poem. Dance to your favourite song and sing out loud, even if your voice sounds like it would receive four no’s on X Factor. Get in touch with your creative side and discover what makes you happy and what makes you feel like yourself again.

Spread love

Look in the mirror and say three things that you like about yourself. Tomorrow, it’ll be four more things. The day after that five things. And you will keep going until you  finally accept and love yourself.

Tell your parents that you love them. Confess your feelings to your crush. Tell your friends that you miss them and ask if there is anything that you can help them with. Volunteer. Adopt a dog or a cat. Today, you can start small by doing just one or two steps. Tomorrow, you can be at the top of the world!
